Commissioned painting of the Brisbane River
100 x 100cm, oil on canvas.

Commissioning a painting is easier than you think…

A commissioned artwork is unique to you. Perhaps you are looking for a painting of a place that means something to you. You may be looking for a painting of a specific size to fit your space. Sometimes clients have missed out on an earlier painting of mine and are looking for something similar – though of course, no two paintings are ever the same. A commissioned artwork also makes a special gift.

I can work with clients to produce artwork of any size – large or small – and can work from life or photographs. Pricing will depend on the size of the artwork and the requirements of the subject matter.

Commissioning a painting is a straightforward process, below is a brief outline of what you can expect:

  1. Get in touch and let me know what you have in mind. I’ll be happy to discuss any ideas you have and if I think I can help

  2. I will provide a quote based on the size and subject matter requirements

  3. If you would like to proceed I will ask for a 50% deposit to schedule the commission

  4. I usually start by producing a series of loose thumbnails or a ‘mini’ study to show you my proposed composition and colour palette. This will give you a good idea of what I intend to produce and ensures that you are happy with the direction.

  5. Based on this I will make a start on the final piece. At this stage, I will give you a clear idea of how long the artwork is likely to take to produce, and when you can expect delivery. The final 50% payment will be due upon completion and handover of the finished artwork.
